Kristi Noem remained on defense after blowback from an anecdote about killing a 14-month-old dog and goat on her farm. “This is Joe Biden’s Democrat Party today,” the New York Republican said, alluding to scenes of chaos on campuses nationwide. “And the reality is this is why Republicans continue to poll stronger and stronger, because we represent peace and security. CNN —For South Dakota Gov. A bipartisan group of members of Congress set up a Congressional Dog Lovers Caucus in a not so subtle dig to the South Dakota governor. Some Republicans came to her defense, like South Dakota Rep. As many questioned why she volunteered this story in her book, Noem said it demonstrates how she doesn’t run from the truth. As governor of South Dakota during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, she resisted lockdowns.

Not surprisingly, the report about Noem killing the dog has led to a furor in the media and on the internet. That, however, apparently was not how Noem viewed Cricket, writing in the book that she “hated” the rambunctious puppy. That, Noem wrote, was the last straw. Of course, President Joe Biden also has a pet dog — although Commander has not been the best-behaved dog at times. The book is filled with many honest stories of my life, good and bad days, challenges, painful decisions, and lessons learned,” Noem wrote.

Kristi Noem defended actions described in her upcoming book in which she killed a dog and goat on her family farm. According to an excerpt, which was obtained by The Guardian, Noem killed her dog Cricket because the dog was “untrainable,” “dangerous to anyone she came in contact with” and “less than worthless … as a hunting dog.”“I hated that dog,” Noem writes, according to the Guardian. “It was not a pleasant job,” Noem writes, according to The Guardian, “but it had to be done. Noem describes the goat as “nasty and mean” and having a “disgusting, musky, rancid” smell. Amid the speculation over her potential as Trump’s vice president continues, Noem would not say whether she would have certified the 2020 election if she were in the same position as former Vice President Mike Pence.

But on Monday, his diminished reality as a criminal defendant will become clear in humbling fashion during opening statements in his first criminal trial. The process, known as a Sandoval hearing, offered the ex-president a glimpse of personal and unflattering revelations that the trial could dredge up. The political case against the prosecutions was laid out by South Dakota Gov. But Noem rehearsed a political argument that Trump and his associates will be seeking to land as the trial goes ahead. But the deeply consequential political and personal stakes for the former president will become even clearer when the first trial begins for real on Monday.

Noem is also facing a new lawsuit, filed by the consumer advocacy group Travelers United, accusing Noem of doing an “undisclosed advertisement” for Smile Texas. Rick Kline and Bret Davis, a pair of dentists at Smile Texas, have, according to federal records, donated to Republican candidates and, in Kline’s case, the Texas state GOP. Davis, in a post to the Smile Texas Instagram account, used some of the video of Noem and wrote, “This gracious leading lady @kristinoem just received an executive, feminine, beautiful smile here at Smile Texas.” Neither is on record donating to Noem. For all the fuzziness, at least one thing is clear: the South Dakota governor is delighted with the results. When the Smile Texas team showed Noem her new grill, the governor says, she began to cry.

Former Democratic Rep. Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii claimed not to know that attendees could choose her in a poll to pick Trump’s potential running mate, while South Dakota Gov. The jockeying to become Trump’s vice presidential pick, playing out behind the scenes for weeks if not longer, spilled into the open at this week’s CPAC, the country’s annual gathering of conservatives. The various approaches to campaigning for the job were on full display inside CPAC, and it’s uncertain which will win over Trump. “Last year, when everyone was asking me if I was going to consider running for president, I said no. “Because anything could happen to Trump.”But he conceded it was a fool’s errand trying to guess whom Trump might pick.

We have people that are willing and able to work, but finding child care was an obstacle.”Republicans historically have been lukewarm about using taxpayer money for child care, even as they have embraced prekindergarten. Nebraska and Indiana have both pitched programs to make child care free for child care workers. Child care advocates say the investments are not enough and called on Congress to authorize a new round of money to keep the child care industry afloat. GOP resistance to child care spending dates to the 1970s, when President Richard Nixon vetoed a bill to establish a national child care system, invoking fears of communism and saying it had “family-weakening implications.” Many of those arguments persist. But during the pandemic, many child care workers left the industry for better-paying jobs, and some child care centers closed for good, exacerbating the problem.

For the second time as governor of South Dakota, Kristi Noem has been banished from the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. Noem’s mention of the gang, he said, was the first time he had heard of it or its possible presence on the reservation. In 2018, as a Representative in the South Dakota Legislature, she proposed legislation that would allow federal authorities to arrest people on tribal lands for state crimes. Tony Mangan, a spokesperson for the South Dakota Attorney General’s office, said the Ghost Dancers are affiliated with a motorcycle gang called the Bandidos. Around the country, tribal nations adopted the practice, and in South Dakota it became part of one of America’s most infamous massacres.
